3 small (1/2 inch) buttons
US #6 needle or size needed to obtain gauge
3”x5” cotton muslin bag
2oz rose buds and petals
2oz unscented fiber bits
½ oz rose fragrance oil
Oddments of grosgrain ribbon,
pompoms, buttons yarn needle, sewing needle and thread.
Two Color Sachet
With MC, cast on 23 sts. Work in stockinette stitch for 45 rows, end on RS row. Knit next row, (WS row) this is the turning row. Then, continue in garter stitch for 6 rows. Place chart A and work to end. At the end of chart A (row 34), work in garter stitch for 6 rows. B/O all sts. Sew side seams together, insert muslin bag containing sachet mixture and sew top closed. Sew on ribbon for hanging and pom-poms if desired.
With DK weight yarn, c/o 21 sts. Work in garter stitch for 1” and end on a WS row. This is the button band. Continue in stockinette stitch until piece measures 5” from c/o edge ending on a RS row. Knit next row, (WS row) this is the turning row. Then, continue on RS row in stockinette stitch for 8 rows. Place Chart B and work to end. At the end of chart B, work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 5” from c/o edge, ending on WS row.
Next row, begin buttonhole band: Knit first 2 sts together on first row only (20 sts). Continue in garter stitch for 3 more rows. Next row, make buttonholes: k2, k2tog, yo, k5, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, k2tog, k2. Next row continue in garter stitch, knitting through yo’s to make buttonholes. Work in garter stitch for 2 more rows, b/o all sts. Sew side seams together, sew buttons on bottom garter stitch band. Insert sachet in knitted bag, and button closed.
Mix unscented fiber bits with ½ oz rose fragrance oil. Cover tightly in a glass jar and store for 24-48 hours, shaking every 6-8 hours. Stir in rose buds and petals and let stand for 12-24 hours. Spoon into muslin bags and close with drawstring or remove drawstring and stitch bag closed (by hand or with a sewing machine). This mix filled 5 3”x5” bags.
